NEWS.

Real Madrid won their 25th league title 34 years ago. Our team mathematically clinched the title with four games to spare following a 0-0 draw against Valladolid at the José Zorrilla stadium. It was the last of the five consecutive league titles won by the Quinta del Buitre. The team equalled Madrid's run of five consecutive league titles between 1961 and 1965.

Toshack's side ended the season in first place with 62 points, ahead of Valencia with 53. They beat the competition's goal-scoring record at the time (107) and were unbeaten at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium (17 wins and 2 draws). Hugo Sánchez was the top scorer of that campaign and Golden Boot, with 38 goals.
