Real Madrid finished that League season with a two-point lead over Barcelona and 15 ahead of Deportivo La Coruña and Betis. Suker, with 24 goals, and Raúl (21) were the team's top scorers that season. The squad was coached by Fabio Capello and did not lose a game until matchday 25.
