27 years since the second Intercontinental Cup win
On 1 December 1998, Real Madrid were crowned world champions after beating Vasco da Gama.
Twenty-seven years ago, Real Madrid won the second of their nine world titles by beating Vasco da Gama in the Intercontinental Cup. The match took place at the National Stadium in Tokyo, and Raúl played a starring role in a historic moment for Real Madrid with his
winning goal. The striker settled the match in the final minutes, with his dribbling in the area leaving two opponents on the floor before scoring the winning goal.
Previously, the side led by Guus Hiddink had taken the lead thanks to an own goal. Roberto Carlos crossed from the left and Nasa, in his attempt to clear, put the ball into his own net. After the break, the Brazilians equalised through Juninho, but Raúl settled the match with a legendary goal.
