Today marks the 13th anniversary of a historic milestone for Real Madrid: the club's 32nd football league title. On 2 May 2012, the Whites mathematically sealed the title after beating Athletic Club at San Mamés (0-3) with two games still to play. The Madridistas set themselves on course for victory in the first 20 minutes with goals from Higuaín and Özil. After the interval, Cristiano Ronaldo rounded off the scoring.

This league title is well remembered for some extraordinary statistics. Never before in the history of the championship had a team collected 100 points and the current record of 121 goals was set. The team also surpassed the previous best record for total wins (32) and away games won (16).

Real Madrid finished the 2011/12 edition with a nine-point lead over Barcelona, second in the standings. On an individual level, Cristiano Ronaldo was the team's top scorer with 46 goals. Mourinho coached that squad and won the league title in his fourth different country: Portugal, England, Italy and Spain.
