105 years since the club received the title Real
NEWS.

On 29 June 1920, King Alfonso XIII granted Madrid the title of Real. He did so in a letter sent by the monarch's Grand Steward to the club's President, Pedro Parages, granting him the right to use that designation. The letter read as follows: "His Majesty the King, may God protect him, has been pleased to grant with the greatest satisfaction the title of Royal to the football club of which you are the worthy president, which may henceforth be placed before its name. I hereby inform you of this royal order for your information and for the purposes it may serve."
This concession allowed the club to bear the royal crown on its crest, and from that year onwards, Madrid Football Club became known as Real Madrid Football Club.
