One year ago today, Real Madrid bid farewell to one of the club's greatest legends: Amancio Amaro Varela. He was a madridista hero, playing for the club from 1962 to 1976. During those 14 seasons, he made 471 appearances, scored 155 goals and became a star of world football.

When he passed away, Amancio was 83 years old and had been the honorary president of Real Madrid since 2022 for his contribution to the club. Amancio spearheaded the Real Madrid yeyé side that won the club's 6th European Cup scoring a stunning goal in the final. In addition to securing 9 Spanish league titles and 3 Copa de España trophies as a player, he was one of the driving forces behind the Quinta del Buitre during his time as coach, in which he clinched a historic Segunda División championship with Castilla.
