Real Madrid won their eleventh European Cup, with the San Siro stadium Milan as the backdrop. It was the second final against Atlético, which on this occasion was decided in a penalty shoot-out. As in the Décima, Sergio Ramos found the back of the net to score the first goal of the match. Atlético equalised thanks to a goal by Carrasco.
 
The 1-1 scoreline held throughout extra time and led to an unforgettable penalty shoot-out. Lucas Vázquez, Marcelo, Bale and Ramos scored their spot-kicks before Juanfran hit the post for Atlético's fourth penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo did not miss the decisive penalty to secure the Undécima. With the win, Zidane collected the first of his three Champions League titles as coach in his inaugural season with the first team.
 
The road to the final
During the 2015/16 edition, Real Madrid won the most games and conceded the fewest goals. In the group stage, the opponents were PSG, Shakhtar Donetsk and Malmö. In the knockout stages, they overcame Roma, Wolfsburg and Manchester City.
