Real Madrid won their eleventh European Cup at the San Siro stadium (Milan). This was the second final against Atlético, decided on this occasion by a penalty shoot-out. Just like in La Décima, Sergio Ramos scored the first goal of the match. Atlético drew level thanks to a goal by Carrasco.
 
The score remained 1-1 throughout extra time and gave rise to an unforgettable penalty shoot-out. Lucas Vázquez, Marcelo, Bale and Ramos scored their spot-kicks before Juanfran hit the post for Atlético's fourth penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo made no mistake with the decisive spot-kick to secure La Undécima. This victory gave Zidane the first of his three Champions League triumphs as coach in his debut season with the first team.

During the 2015/16 campaign, Real Madrid won the most games and conceded the fewest goals. In the Group Stage they faced PSG, Shakhtar Donetsk and Malmö. The knockout rounds saw them overcome Roma, Wolfsburg and Manchester City.
