Buenos Aires, the birthplace of Alfredo Di Stéfano, hosted a tribute to the Blonde Arrow on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño, attended on behalf of our club. Also present were Silvana and Norma Di Stéfano, Alfredo Di Stéfano's daughter and sister, respectively. During the event, a plaque in honor of Di Stéfano was unveiled in Padre Marcelino Champagnat Square, the site where he began playing football on the former field of Club del Plata. The plaque reads: “On this ground, Alfredo Di Stéfano, one of the greatest figures in world sport, began playing football.” In his speech, Butragueño said: “Di Stéfano represents all the values of our institution. His DNA was fundamental in building that mythical and legendary Real Madrid that won the first five European Cups. It is impossible to understand the history of Real Madrid without Di Stéfano.” The greatest player of all time Di Stéfano was born on July 4, 1926, in Buenos Aires. During his time at Real Madrid, from 1953 to 1964, he became a legend of world football and changed the history of our club. He won 5 consecutive European Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 2 Latin Cups, 8 League titles, 1 Spanish Cup, and 1 Small Club World Cup. Additionally, he played 396 matches and scored 308 goals as a madridista. He was recognized with two Ballon d'Or awards and remains the only player to have received a Super Ballon d'Or, which France Football awarded him in 1989 for his career achievements. He also won the Pichichi Trophy 5 times. After retiring, he remained connected to the club as a coach and an emblem of Real Madrid.
