Today marks the eighth anniversary of Real Madrid's 33rd league title. On 21 May 2017, Zidane's side were crowned champions on the final matchday when they got the better of Málaga at La Rosaleda. The madridistas set themselves on course for the victory early on with a Cristiano Ronaldo goal in the opening two minutes. Benzema secured the title with a second-half strike to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

Real Madrid finished the 2016/17 campaign with 93 points, three more than Barcelona (90), who came second. That year, the Whites broke the all-time away goalscoring record in the league (58) and netted a total of 106 goals by the end of the season. They also found the back of the net on all 38 matchdays. The madridistas’ top scorer was Cristiano Ronaldo, with 25 goals.

A historic year
2017 was the greatest year in the club's history in terms of football trophies, as they racked up five titles. The European Super Cup, won in Macedonia against Manchester United; the Spanish Super Cup, secured against Barcelona; and the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi, against Gremio, accompanied the success in LaLiga and La Duodécima, clinched in Cardiff against Juventus.
