Today marks two years since José Martínez Pirri was named honorary president of Real Madrid. On 11 November, 2023, he was unanimously elected at the club's Extraordinary General Assembly held in the basketball pavillion at Real Madrid City.

At the ceremony, Florentino Pérez dedicated an emotional speech to Pirri: “You are an unquestionable figure for all madridismo, one who embodies all the values of Real Madrid. One of those great names that have elevated our club's history. Player, head of the club's medical services and Real Madrid sporting director general. He's done it all here, and has shown his dedication, commitment, humility, and exemplary conduct to several generations, during a lifetime representing our jersey."

Pirri arrived at Real Madrid in 1964, at just 19 years of age. He spent 16 seasons with the club as a player, winning the sixth European Cup, 10 LaLiga titles and Copas de España. He made 561 appearances, scoring 172 goals and was also the first player to receive the Laureada, awarded by Santiago Bernabéu himself.
