Today marks the 69th anniversary of Real Madrid's fourth Copa de España basketball triumph. On 17 June 1956, Ignacio Pinedo's team clinched the title with a 59-55 win over Aismalíbar at the Frontón Fiesta Alegre in Madrid.
It was an evenly matched final that ended 54-54 and needed overtime to decide the champions. Joaquín Hernández and Arturo Imedio were the stars of the team. Real Madrid and Aismalíbar were again in the final the following year, which they also went on to win.
