Real Madrid were crowned champions of the first ever basketball league season back on 19 May 1957. The inaugural edition of the tournament was an evenly-matched affair, going down to the final game as our team visited Barcelona with the title up for grabs. The madridistas lost the game (60-50), but got their hands on the trophy on basket average, thanks to their home win in the first half of the season (73-55).
That League campaign was made up of six teams and Real Madrid finished top of the pile with 7 wins and 3 draws. Ignacio Pinedo was the coach, while madridista Alfonso MartÃnez was the top point scorer.
