Today marks the 51st anniversary of Real Madrid's 15th Copa de España basketball crown. On 31 May 1973, the team coached by Pedro Ferrándiz became champions after defeating Estudiantes 126-87 at the La Salle de Paterna (Valencia) pavilion. Real Madrid underlined its dominance of national basketball with its fourth consecutive league and cup double.

In the final against Estudiantes, the Whites led from the start and went into the break with a 54-48 lead. Madrid's scoring rate increased after the break thanks to Luyk, who finished with 32 points, and Brabender (30). Ferrándiz's men also established the highest points difference in a cup final (+39).
