We won the League Cup 39 years ago
Real Madrid beat Atlético in the final, which was played over two legs, on 15 June 1985.
On 15 June 1985, Real Madrid added a new title to their trophy cabinet. It was the Copa de la Liga, a competition they played in for four seasons, between 1983 and 1986. The final, like the play-offs, was played over two legs and our team came back from 3-2 down in the first leg to win the trophy in the second leg with a 2-0 win.
Pineda, Santillana, Stielike and Míchel all scored for Madrid in the final stage, but to win the League Cup Real Madrid also had to beat Barcelona and Sporting Gijón in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively. This meant that Luis Molowny's side lifted their second title of the season, having won their first UEFA Cup earlier that season.
