Real Madrid was voted FIFA's Best Club of the 20th Century in 2000. Club president Florentino Pérez and honorary president Alfredo Di Stéfano accepted the trophy at a gala in Rome. Real Madrid won with more than 42% of the votes, beating Manchester United and Bayern Munich, the next teams in the ranking with 9.69% and 9.18% of the votes, respectively.

This award recognised Real Madrid's successes up to that point and its importance in the development of football worldwide. At that time, our club's trophy cabinet included 8 European Cups, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 2 UEFA Cups, 2 Latin Cups, 27 Spanish League titles, 17 Copas del Rey, 5 Spanish Super Cups, 1 La Liga Cup, 1 Ibero-American Cup and 2 Small Club World Cups.
