Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations at Real Madrid, received special recognition at the tenth edition of the awards presented annually by the Madrid Sports Press Association (APDM). The Madridista legend received this award as “a personal distinction that highlights an exceptional sporting career and, very significantly, an exemplary and continuous relationship with journalists over the years,” explained the organisers.

After receiving the award, Butragueño said: "From a very young age, I have tried to learn from everyone close to me: my parents, my family and those I have met in my life. A critical moment in my life was when I arrived at Real Madrid in 1981. This club taught me a series of values that, from that moment on, have marked my life and mean a lot to me."

Relations with the media
"With regard to the media, our relationship with them is very important to us. It is essentially based on mutual respect and the responsibility we all have. For me it is an honour to represent my club. In fact, I have come here on many occasions representing Real Madrid and today I am doing it personally; for me it is an honour. I have always had a cordial relationship with the media. We admit that everyone has their job and their profession. We have respected each other and I hope it will be like that in the future."

Distinguished career at Real Madrid
As a Real Madrid player, Butragueño played 463 games and scored 171 goals. His nickname served to baptise one of the best generations of footballers in the history of Real Madrid and Spanish football. Alongside SanchísMíchelMartín Vázquez and Pardeza, he spearheaded the Quinta del Buitre. In his 11 years as a Madridista, he won 16 trophies: 1 Copa Iberoamericana, 1 Copa de la Liga, 2 Copa del Rey, 4 Spanish Super Cups, 6 League titles and 2 UEFA Cups. He currently holds the position of Director of Institutional Relations at the club and is also the Director General of the Real Madrid Universidad Europea University School.
