90 years since Real Madrid’s first ever league title
On 3 April 1932, the Whites clinched the title after drawing away at Barcelona.
Real Madrid celebrate the 90th anniversary of the club’s first ever LaLiga title. On 3 April 1932, the Whites claimed their first trophy in the competition with a 2-2 draw away at Barcelona on the final matchday. Lazcano and Luis Regueiro netted the goals for Madrid in that match. That season's competition, which consisted of 10 teams, ended with Real Madrid topping the table with 28 points and remaining unbeaten throughout the season. They were followed by Athletic 25 and Barcelona 24.
Real Madrid were also the side to concede the fewest goals 15, making Ricardo Zamora the club’s first goalkeeper to win the trophy that now bears his name. This award was first introduced in the 1958/59 season, though the Marca newspaper acknowledged the goalkeepers who had conceded the fewest goals in previous seasons as a token of recognition. As for the team's top scorer in that campaign, Olivares topped the list with 10 goals. Madrid's first LaLiga title-winning coach was the Hungarian Lippo Hertzka. 90 years after that title, Real Madrid now dominate the competition's honours list with 34 LaLiga titles to their name.
