NEWS.
Eighty years ago, on 15 September 1943, a new Board of Directors took office at Real Madrid, chaired by Santiago Bernabéu. Bernabéu began an era of expansion and greatness for the club, which would last for 35 years. Up until his death in 1978, the club won 6 European Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 16 Leagues, 6 Spanish Cups, 2 Latin Cups and 2 Small World Cups. As for the basketball team, the record was also spectacular with 6 European Cups, 3 Intercontinental Cups, 19 Leagues, 18 Spanish Cups and 1 Latin Cup.

Santiago Bernabéu was 48 years old when he took over from Antonio Santos Peralba. Along with sporting success, during his time at the helm he managed to bring in the best players on the planet, the recognition of Real Madrid as a reference point in world sport and the construction of the Nuevo Chamartín, later renamed in his honour. Santiago Bernabéu is one of the most important figures in our history and before becoming president, he was a player, coach and director of the club.
