On 26 June 1955, Real Madrid won their first Latin Cup, defeating Stade de Reims 2-0. The final took place at the Parc des Princes in Paris, and the star of the show was Héctor Rial, who scored both goals. A year later, the Whites would defeat the French side again at the same venue in the first final of the European Cup.
Before lifting the Latin Cup in 1955, Real Madrid played a semi-final match in Paris against Os Belenenses. Zárraga and Pérez-Payá scored the goals in the 2-0 win. In the other match of that round, Stade de Reims beat Milan 3-2. Real Madrid thus added their name to the honours list of the Latin Cup, a competition they would win again in 1957.
