On this day, 34 years ago, Miguel Muñoz, one of Real Madrid’s most legendary figures, passed away. At the time he was 68 years old, and his influence was both on the pitch, where he made 275 appearances, and in the dugout, where he was coach for 14 consecutive years.
As a player, he spent 10 seasons with Real Madrid from 1948 to 1958. Miguel Muñoz led the way in one of the greatest moments in the club's history when he lifted the club’s first European Cup as captain. His silverware list as a footballer boasts two more European Cups, four LaLiga titles and two Latin Cups.

Legendary coach
After being involved in one of Real Madrid's most successful eras as a player, Muñoz enhanced his legacy with a remarkable career in the dugout. He holds the record for the most games managed at the club (605) and between 1960 and 1974 he went on to become one of the club's most successful coaches. As a coach, he lifted two European Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, nine LaLiga titles and two Spanish Cups. He was also coach of the Spanish national team.
