Drazen Petrovic died in a road traffic accident in Germany on 7 June 1993. Madrid fans were able to enjoy watching him play in the famous white jersey during the 1988/89 season, with his impressive displays earning him a place in Real Madrid's history books. One of the highlights was the FIBA Saporta Cup final, in which he scored 62 points to beat Snaidero Caserta. That season also saw him lift the Copa del Rey.

Born in Sibenik (Croatia) on 22 October 1964, Petrovic was 28 years old at the time of the tragic accident, having already become a European basketball legend. He first came to prominence with KK Sibenka and Cibona Zagreb, before joining Real Madrid. After shining for our club, he began his NBA career, where he played for the Portland Trail Blazers and New Jersey Nets. In the latter franchise, his number 3 jersey was retired after his death.
