It was on 26 June 1993 that Real Madrid lifted their 17th Spanish Cup. The opponent was Zaragoza, in a match played at Mestalla. Butragueño put Madrid ahead in the first half, and Lasa, in the 78th minute, sealed the win that gave them the title four years after their previous Cup victory.

Real Madrid, with Benito Floro in charge, knocked out Mallorca (round of 16), Real Sociedad (quarter-finals), and Barcelona (semi-finals). Zamorano played a key role in that Cup, scoring six goals in seven games.
