The Bernabéu enjoys Real Madrid and Porto legends in the Corazón Classic Match

The Santiago Bernabéu was enveloped in a party atmosphere for the eleventh edition of the Corazón Classic Match charity game. The clash, due to be played in 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, pitted legends from Real Madrid and Porto against each other under the slogan El partido más solidario. The Portuguese side got the better of the madridistas thanks to Marek Cech's strike in a game whose proceeds will go towards funding research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and the sustainability of the Real Madrid Foundation's social sports projects.
The fans once again had the chance to enjoy watching players who have made history for Real Madrid in our spectacular stadium. The team was made up of the likes of Zidane, Raúl, Butragueño, Roberto Carlos and Iker Casillas, the latter playing his first legends game and splitting his time between the two clubs having played for both.
Under the orders of Camacho, Stielike and Manolo Castro, the madridistas crafted the early chances, but it was Porto who found the net first. They did so through Mareck Cech, who cut in from the left to tuck home from inside the six-yard box (9’). Shortly afterwards, Casillas ensured the lead remained at a single goal, pulling off an outstanding save to deny Derlei. Vítor Baía then did the same for his team, repelling efforts by Morientes and Seedorf. The midfielder was one of the standout attacking performers, seeing two lovely strikes come back off the upright.
Chances
The intensity increased as the minutes ticked by, with the second half being played at a higher pace. The Real Madrid Legends again enjoyed a glut of chances but were still unable to convert. Morientes tried his luck with a back-heel just before coming off, Baptista came close to a leveller with his head and Granero tried to catch Casillas out with his free-kick. The scores remained the same, meaning our team ultimately had to accept defeat. At the end of the day though, the Corazón Classic Match was once again a fantastic footballing party where solidarity took centre stage.
