Real Madrid turn the game around against Unicaja with a 43-20 run in the last 16 minutes.
Real Madrid beat Unicaja Málaga and continues their winning streak in the league, where they have now racked up 10 consecutive victories. Our team came back from 14 points down in the second half with a 43-20 run between the 24th and 40th minutes to finish on top and extend their record at the Movistar Arena in this competition to 37 games unbeaten. Hezonja (19 points, 8 rebounds and a PIR of 20), Maledon (15), Garuba (13) and Feliz (7 and 15), who played his 100th game in our jersey, led Scariolo's side in their last home game of 2025.
The first quarter was played at a very high tempo with both teams attacking at full throttle. Madrid dominated early on, with Hezonja (7 points), Llull (5) and Tavares (4) leading the way. They lacked the three-pointer and failed to close out the rebound. Unicaja took advantage with 5 offensive rebounds, which gave them second chances. With 50% from beyond 6.75 and the production of Perry and Balcerowski (14 points between them), they ended up snatching the initiative from our team in the final stretch (27-30, min. 10).
Trailing
Unicaja opened up a gap on the scoreboard at the start of the second quarter. They maintained their offensive fluidity thanks to contributions from the bench with Tillie, Audige and Sulejmanovic and their dominance on the rebound. Real Madrid lost the fluidity they had shown at the start, lowering their shooting percentages and committing their first turnovers. They were uncomfortable in defence and allowed easy baskets to an opponent who was now also scoring from close range. Campazzo and Tavares managed to reduce the deficit from 13 to 8 points before the break (46-54).
Almost three and a half minutes without scoring after the restart by the Madridistas gave Unicaja a comfortable cushion again, increasing the difference to 14 points at 48-62 (min. 24). Scariolo dispensed with a centre and fielded a smaller five with Maledon, Feliz, Abalde, Hezonja and Garuba. The team regained its composure and responded with much more energy and determination. They closed down the defensive rebound and increased the intensity in defense. They completely shut down Unicaja's attack, limiting them to 12 points in this quarter, and turned the game around spectacularly with a 23-4 run in 6 minutes to complete the comeback (71-66, min. 30).
Feliz leads the way and Maledon delivers the knockout blow
The point guard ended up being instrumental in his 100th game as a Madrid player. And not just in defence. His influence in attack at the start of the final quarter, connecting with Garuba and scoring, allowed Madrid to maintain their positive momentum. Balcerowski tried to respond for Unicaja, but Madrid had stepped up their defensive intensity and prevented their opponents from scoring any three-pointers in the second half. They held them to 20 points and doubled their points in the last 16 minutes with a 43-20 run. Maledon took control of the game in the last two minutes and ended Unicaja's resistance (91-82, min. 40).
