Real Madrid were unable to beat Bayern on their visit to the SAP Garden.
Real Madrid lost at the SAP Garden in Munich against Bayern in the first of three clashes this week. The home side started the game brightly to build up a 10-0 lead. This bad start did not last long as Lyles (7 points) and Tavares put the team ahead on the scoreboard (18-19; min. 6). The German team reacted and took the lead in the first quarter (27-25; min. 10).
Madrid improved in the second quarter, which opened with a three-pointer from Okeke to put the Whites ahead again. Madrid countered the home side's baskets with their free throw shooting (12/13) and, after Kratzer was sent off for two fouls, they capitalised on the bonus to take a 0-9 lead (35-43; min. 15). Tavares drove Madrid forward and, with 11 points, they made a difference of 12 points. Madrid then went on an impressive 4-21 run to end the first half 44-57.
Change after the break
Everything took a different turn after the restart. Bayern stepped up their game and Mike, with 5 points in a row, reduced the Madridista lead. The Canadian player was the most outstanding of his team with 23 points and, together with Oscar da Silva, turned the game around (65-63; min. 28). Despite baskets from Garuba and Maledon, the home side went into the final quarter with an advantage (69-67; min. 30).
Five points from Rathan-Mayes at the start of the final quarter extended the home side's lead. Maledon and then Lyles replied with a three-pointer (74-72; min. 32). Losses and inaccuracy plagued Madrid, and Bayern took advantage of this to make more ground to increase their lead to 10 points (82-72; min. 35). The visitors sought to mount a comeback, but in the end, the home side claimed a 90-84 victory.
