Real Madrid secured their eighth consecutive victory by defeating Bàsquet Girona at the Movistar Arena, where they remain unbeaten in the league after ten games and extend their historic record to 36 games without defeat. Scariolo's men, who were clearly superior to the Girona side, put on an offensive masterclass, scoring 59 points in the first half and a total of 112, setting their best offensive record of the season (previously 111 against Granada) and surpassing 100 points for the fifth time this season. Campazzo, Procida and Krämer (19) led nine players in double-digits in PIR.
Our team dominated the first seven minutes (20-11) thanks to great activity at both ends of the court and high shooting percentages. Procida (10 points) and Lyles (7) led an attack where all five starters contributed. It was at their maximum lead that the Madridistas wanted to put some distance between themselves and their opponents, but several hasty decisions allowed Bàsquet Girona to string together a series of baskets, with Maric as the standout player, to keep up with the pace (28-22, min. 10).
Madrid on the attack
Our team upped the offensive tempo in the second quarter with a further 31 points to go into the break at 59. An attack that was working almost perfectly: 9 three-pointers, 15 assists, 8 offensive rebounds. Campazzo, Feliz, Maledon and Len contributed to the recital by Scariolo's men, who rested Deck, Hezonja and Tavares. But before that, Girona had tied the game at 35 in the 25th minute with two three-pointers from Needham. However, another burst from Madrid, in the form of a 24-14 run, put them back in front at the end of the first half (59-49).
The home side did not take their foot off the gas in attack in the second half and also added defence, with Garuba playing a prominent role. It was a recipe that proved decisive in breaking down Bàsquet Manresa's resistance. Procida opened the third quarter with his third three-pointer. Feliz stepped up and, alongside Krämer (11 points and 4 rebounds) and Lyles, joined in the offensive festival of a Real Madrid team that ended up breaking the game open and establishing a lead of more than 20 points as the minutes ticked by (86-65, min. 30).
Scoring record
Scariolo continued with the rotations so that the intensity would not drop and, above all, to distribute minutes before facing three games in five days next week (Emporio Armani Milan, Paris Basketball and Hiopos Lleida). Madrid had the bit between their teeth. The attitude from the players, constantly looking for the opponent's basket, reflected this.
Krämer and Almasa (both rested in last Thursday's victory over Baskonia) kept Madrid in fifth gear. The academy product scored the 101st point with four minutes remaining. By then, Bàsquet Girona could only watch on as the game was decided. But Madrid had the 111 points they scored against Coviran Granada on the horizon. And Maledon, who received the EuroLeague MVP trophy for November from legend Rudy Fernández before the game, achieved it with two free throws to cap off another brilliant team performance (112-76 and a rating of 162).
