A game at the WiZink Center has become synonymous with victory this season, and today it happened again. Real Madrid were unstoppable in front of their home fans and picked up their third home win (fifth in total), producing a great performance against a Red Star side who went into the game as leaders and with one of the best defences in Europe. Our team put the game away with a superb first 20 minutes (46-29) which they followed up after the break, putting in their most complete performance of the season with a +23 final score and 137 in PIR. Campazzo (30 in 19 minutes) led seven players in double figures in this section, with Ndiaye, who beat his record in our jersey (16), and Musa's 17 points in 17 minutes standing out.
A great start from Madrid in a first quarter that they completely dominated thanks to their balance on both sides of the court. Campazzo and Hezonja lined up to give a recital in reading the game. The Argentine (3 assists) and the Croatian (5) supplied an attack that flowed to perfection with Tavares (8) and Ndiaye (5) as top scorers against the third best defence in the championship. We went on to score 22 points in the first 10 minutes, leaving the Serbians down by 10 after a 13-0 run.
Madrid kept up their superiority
Red Star tried to change the dynamic by putting in two point guards, namely Dos Santos and Teodosic. They improved in the last two minutes of the second quarter (23-18), but they found Madrid's quick response slowing down their growth. It was Musa, in his first appearance of the game, who cut the streak with four straight points. Madrid regained command with an extra dose of energy, aggressiveness at the back and unity, with the activity of Rathan-Mayes (3 assists, 3 rebounds) and the drive of Deck and Ndiaye (9 points at half-time), who played as an inside duo in the final stretch of the first half (46-29, min.20), being particularly noteworthy.
Madrid managed their lead with firmness against a Serbian team that began to exchange baskets and increase the speed of the game. Ndiaye and Hezonja, who beat their records for points and assists respectively, and Campazzo provided the response. The point guard is at another level and subdued the Serbians with a differential performance (30 PIR in 19 minutes and no misses with his shooting), in a third quarter in which we reached a 24-point lead (67-43, min.27).
Resounding victory
With 8 minutes to go, the Whites had already scored 76 points, one more than the average that the visitors have conceded so far this season. But they were very strong in defence, giving the impression that when they pressed their opponents had a lot of trouble scoring. They continued to move the ball to perfection to always find the best option. This time it was Musa, always a sure thing on the offensive line (17 points in 17 minutes). Hugo González also joined in with a basket and today's Euroleague debutant Gueye, who also made his debut with two free throws and helped the other 12 to score. Madrid reached 90 points again for the third consecutive game and the WiZink vibrated one more night with their team (95-72, min.40).
