Our team were too strong for San Pablo Burgos in a hard-fought game that was decided in the final quarter. The team have now won 33 in a row on home soil in domestic competition.
Real Madrid took a hard-earned win over Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos on Endesa League matchday three. The standout players were Hezonja (17 points and a PIR of 21), Garuba (10 and 14) and Procida (10 and 10), in an even clash decided in the final stretch. Scariolo's boys continue their incredible streak at the Movistar Arena, where they've won all five so far this season, and 33 in a row in the competition.
Real Madrid flew out the box looking slick in offense (7-0 from the off), against a Burgos outfit who were effective on the rebound, as they've shown time and again at the start of the new league season, though they struggled to find their range around the basket. With 19 points between them, Procida (7 points), Kramer (7) and Hezonja (5) kept our boys ahead throughout the first quarter, which finished 25-20.
The opposition started stronger the second period, moving to within a single point before the game's first timeout (29-28, min. 13). The game became increasingly evenly matched as the minutes ticked by, with Burgos forcing our team to find fluidity in the transitions. The match headed into halftime with the visitors +5 (41-46).
Nothing to choose between the teams
Garuba and Hezonja led the fightback at the start of the third quarter (6 points each), backed up by some incredible defensive work by Campazzo. The madridistas edged ahead again for a short spell, before Burgos hit back to level once more (68-68, min. 30). It was all to play for in the final quarter.
Campazzo delivers at the key moment
A 6-0 run at the start of the last period, with 4 points for Okeke, a strong team effort on the rebound (9) and Campazzo's 6-point streak, were the keys to finding an advantage that left Burgos unable to react. Madrid's superb final quarter saw them post 22 points, to their opponents' 12.
