Madrid fall short against Fenerbahçe
MATCH REPORT.Rodrigo Salamanca

Real Madrid were unable to come away from their EuroLeague Round 14 clash against Fenerbahce with a win. Our boys fell to defeat against the Turkish outfit at the WiZink Center, struggling to break down a solid defense led by the inspired Hayes-Davis. Campazzo was the top performer for Madrid, with 14 points and a PIR of 19. The madridistas face another tough game on Sunday, this time in the league against Unicaja (6:30 pm CET).

Defenses were on top in the early exchanges, and Madrid looked the brighter of the two teams despite low point-scoring. Campazzo was finding his teammates with ease and Tavares imposed himself under the post to help his team take an 11-4 lead (min. 5). Chus Mateo's boys were playing at an impressive pace and after finding a series of good shots by Llull, they took the opening period (20-12).

Change of dynamics
The Turkish team improved all round in the second quarter and a flowing team display, led by Hayes-Davis, managed to turn the scores around (20-23; min. 14). The game remained much the same for the rest of the period and 7 points for Melli saw the visitors head into the half-time break with a lead (31-37).

Madrid reacted well as they emerged from the dressing room and the Campazzo-Tavares connection brought them back within touching distance of the lead (41-43; min. 24). The away team continued with their impressive efforts though. With Hayes-Davis still on song (16 points), they even took it up a notch in response to the hosts' increased intensity to move onto 41-49. Fenerbahce ended the third quarter +13.

Final quarter
Our team had 10 minutes to try and turn things around. Chus Mateo's boys did improve in offense, running hard and finding Tavares time and again. In the opening five minutes, they managed to cut the deficit to just 9, with five minutes left to play. But Jasikevicius' team had time on their side, not to mention the scoreboard and the unplayable Hayes-Davis (30 points). Victory ultimately went the way of the visitors and Madrid's attentions now turn to Sunday's clash with Unicaja.
