Chus Mateo spoke to the club's media channels on the eve of Real Madrid's trip to Gran Canaria (Sunday, 1:00pm CET). The coach began by discussing the team's condition: "Several players are carrying knocks or the odd muscle issue. We've got two guys out in Llull and Tavares who won't be involved in the squad for the next few days. Having a reduced roster means the others pick up more knocks and other problems too. But it's nothing we can't overcome with a bit of time and patience."
“Gran Canaria are a fantastic team, they're brilliantly coached by Lakovič. He's done a great job over the last couple of years. They have impressive resources, players on the inside with immense potential and point-scoring ability, and you can't sleep on their exterior players either. They are a really complete unit, they have it all: shooters, guys who are strong on the pick and roll, the point guards create a lot, they're brilliant. We'll have to put in a great performance to win it.”

“We don't look at the table much, to be honest. We're more focused on our work day to day than where we are in the league. You might be top now and then drop off, and our mentality doesn't change. We think about what we can improve and work on in order to be more consistent and maintain that over the course of games, we want to try and lose fewer balls. They are things we'll get better at over the year and I hope we can keep ourselves on the right part regardless of when the odd defeat comes around. Losing is part of the game in demanding competitions like the two we're involved in."
