Chus Mateo: “We performed well and I'm pleased for the fans and for the team”

Chus Mateo and Poirier analysed Real Madrid’s victory over Gran Canaria. The coach had this to say after the first game of the league quarter-final playoffs: “We performed well. I'm pleased for the fans and for the team, because they work hard, and they understood that we were in the quarter-finals. We're very close to the Final Four but we can't be complacent because Gran Canaria are a good side. We won by 35 points and now they are hurt, but I'm sure they will react. We have to be very attentive. In a playoff, things change a lot from one day to the next and we have to stay focused.”

“Patience was important. At the beginning it was clear that they had their chances, but if you keep going and going, we're a consistent team and we didn't lose our heads in the game. We kept going and fought for every ball until the end, so we're happy with that.”
Poirier: “I always try to finish strong at the hoop”
“I try to perform well and help the team. My teammates pass me the ball and I always try to finish strong at the hoop. The inside players had a good first half because we managed to draw fouls from their tall men. We know that it'll be difficult there with their fans, but we have to go to Las Palmas like we played today.”
