Chus Mateo: ‘We need to improve in defence’
‘We weren't able to maintain a solid level of continuity,' explained Abalde.
Chus Mateo and Alberto Abalde spoke at the end of Real Madrid's away game against Bayern Munich. The coach said: ‘We fought to get back into the game after starting behind. Our defence improved at the end of the second quarter and especially in the third. We came back and even had a ten-point advantage.'
‘But at the beginning of the last quarter the game stopped, maybe too much because there were problems with one of the shot clocks. We came out very sluggish, conceded a lot of points in a row and scored only four. That was the key to the game. We need to improve our defence, we allowed them too many three pointers.'
Possible foul on Campazzo at the end of the game
‘I haven't seen the video yet. I don't know right now. It's a game situation, the referees did a good job and probably didn't see the foul, which is why they didn't call it. We need to be focused on ourselves as a team, improve our defence significantly and know how to handle the game when we're up by ten points.'
Abalde: ‘It was a difficult game’
‘We were eager to start off with a victory, but it was a difficult game and we didn't do enough to win. We have to keep working, stay close and focus on the next game. I'm sure the right moment will come.'
The key
'We haven't had much continuity in the team's moments of consistency. As a team we have had much more difficult moments and when things don't go the way you want them to, you have to keep working. Returning to the WiZink Center will be helpful for us. We're looking forward to playing at home. After this defeat, we just want to go out on the court on Sunday and have a good game and get the win.'
