Chus Mateo: "We've done a great job, but this is only the beginning"
NEWS.

Chus Mateo spoke to the media after Real Madrid took a 1-0 lead in the Endesa League final against Valencia Basket. The coach said: "We got the first point because we defended really well in the first two quarters, although we struggled to attack. In the second half, our attack matured a little more and we did much better.”

“Valencia are a great team that play at a frenetic pace and are unpredictable. I don't know if we've seen them score 75 points very often this year. We had the patience and consistency to let the game mature. We have to continue along those lines."

“We can't take anything for granted, they're a team capable of putting together big runs. It would be stupid to get complacent against them. We've got one point in what's sure to be a long series. Even though we did a good job defensively for three quarters of the game today, that doesn't mean anything. We have to keep going and win the next game so that we can go to Valencia with a little bit of peace of mind. They play very well and this is only the beginning”.

On Feliz's excellent performance
“Doubts often come from outside and that doesn't affect us too much. We have a strong protector, which is our dressing room. Inside it, there has never been any doubts about him. I'm happy because he's showing what a good player, leader and teammate he is. At important moments, like a Liga Endesa final, he's capable of a performance like today’s, at both ends of the court.’

Feliz: “We came out with the right focus and unity in defence”
“It was never going to be an easy game, like the first game of any series. But we came out with the right focus and the unity we had in defence was what decided the game.”
