Chus Mateo: "It's important to finish the Regular Season on a positive note"
"It's not going to be easy to get first place, but we're having a good year," added the coach ahead of the clash against Baskonia at the Wizink Center (Sunday, 6.30pm CEST).
Chus Mateo spoke to Realmadrid TV the day before the final matchday in the Regular Season, when Real Madrid host Baskonia. The coach had the following to say: “We've been fighting all season to try to finish first. It's not going to be easy to get that top spot, but we're having a good year. We have to forget about the Valencia game quickly and remember that the league is very tough. Regardless of your position, you have to have a good quarter-final series, which we have before the Final Four. We have to focus on the remaining games and be very focused on doing a good job.”
Previous clashes with Baskonia
“We were very competitive, we were good, we understood where the game was going. They're a team with a lot of points and they play at a tremendous pace. We have to defend well, know where we can attack, stay focused and maintain the confidence we've had over the last month.”
Finishing strongly
“It's important, there are no more than 15 games left, if everything goes well. We'd like to try to do it all. I've always said it was important to be first in the league, but not essential. We're just going to keep the momentum going, in the right spirit and doing things well right to the end. We'll fight as hard as we can to finish a season that has started well and try to win the trophies.”
