Tavares becomes EuroLeague's all-time leading rebounder
His 11 catches against Maccabi brought his total to 2,016, surpassing Lithuania's Jankunas.
Walter Tavares continues to carve out his EuroLeague legacy. The Cape Verdean centre became the top rebounder in the history of the competition with 2,016 rebounds, after grabbing 11 in the win over Maccabi and beating the record held by Jankunas (2,010).
This milestone for the Madridista centre, who is also the all-time EuroLeague leader in blocked shots, is all the more significant because he has achieved it in just 297 games (at an average of 6.7 rebounds), 95 fewer than the Lithuanian centre, who did it in 392. Tavares is also the only player among the best to have achieved it with just one team, Real Madrid. His highest in one game is the 19 he registered against Valencia Basket on 11 January 2024. Another Madridista legend, Felipe Reyes, ranks fifth all-time with 1,799 rebounds.
