Rudy Fernández spoke to Realmadrid TV to discuss his mood ahead of the Copa del Rey in Málaga, where Real Madrid take on UCAM Murcia in the quarter-finals (Thursday, 6:00pm CET): “It's a real party for the fans and it's a special experience for the players. But first and foremost we're competing for what is a pretty important title in a long old regular season. It's crucial because after the Copa, the transition to the playoffs starts both in the EuroLeague and the ACB. It's a big moment for all clubs to get their hands on a trophy."

“We have to compete just as we have been over the last few months. We'll have to be at our best. We've been really consistent, we've always played at a decent level. But we saw what can happen last year, any team can spring an upset and that's the beauty of the Copa del Rey; it's one game and anything can happen."

The team's condition
“Thanks to all the physiotherapy, doctors and coaching staff, we're coming into it in good shape. We're all fit and excited to play in a Copa del Rey that's sure to be amazing, especially in Málaga where basketball is followed with such passion. We're focused and hungry."

UCAM Murcia
“They're having a great season. We know what a team they are and how hard they play in these kinds of games. We have to match that and try to focus on doing what we know. If we show our talent and deliver our best basketball, I hope we'll be in the semifinals."

Copa memories
“The first Copa experiences are always beautiful. The last one was in Badalona and I unfortunately wasn't able to play with injury, so I'm really looking forward to being involved this time. Good memories, whenever I've won it, it's been a great memory."

What will you bring the team?
“I bring the energy I always try to give at every moment I'm on court, as well as my experience. I've been here many times and I think experience is vital in these kinds of tournaments."

High demands
Real Madrid always comes with the demands of being the team lifting every trophy. After the Super Cup, now we've got the Copa del Rey and we're hungry to win it. With the levels we're showing ,everyone has got us down as favourites. Ultimately though, favouritism is something for those on the outside to worry about, we're staying humble. Hard work must come first."

Message for the madridistas
“Hey madridistas. You're always right behind us and when times are tough, that's when we feel you the most. Now we're heading to the Copa del Rey in Málaga and I hope we see loads of madridistas cheering us on at the Carpena. Those who can't make it, I know we'll feel you supporting us and I hope that together we can lift the Copa del Rey again. A big hug."
