Ibaka: “This is like coming home for me”
“I've seen how the team has been playing in recent years and I love it," said the new madridista signing.
Serge Ibaka spoke to Realmadrid TV after becoming Real Madrid's latest new signing. The center reflected: “I feel so happy and I'm also hugely grateful for the chance to return to Madrid. This is like coming home for me. It's a club I know and it was an easy decision to make."
Eager to come back
“I can't wait. I already know what it's like to play here, at home. I can't wait to pull this jersey on again and be on court with the guys."
Experience
“You could say I've changed physically, but I have improved so much as a player. I have changed. That's the difference between the Ibaka you see now and the one from before. I've always been focused on defense, ever since the start of my career, but now I've got a lot better in offense. I can offer my experience too, because I've been playing professional basketball for 18 years."
Forming a duo with Tavares
“With his defensive mentality, and mine as well, we can become a hugely important pairing in Europe from a defensive perspective, for sure."
Winning team
“I'm here to win. I've come back here because with Madrid, I have the chance to win things, which is what I want and what I enjoy doing. I like that pressure of a team that's used to winning. Always, every year, the team will try and win, and I love that."
Working with Chus Mateo
“He's a coach I know from way back, when I was last here. I've seen how the team has been playing in recent years, their style, and I love it. I can't wait to work with him."
Message for the fans
“Hey, madridistas, I'm Serge Ibaka. I'm back here, at home. I can't wait to see you all soon."
