Alberto Herreros inducted into the Spanish Basketball Hall of Fame
Cristóbal Rodríguez is also part of the sixth class.
Alberto Herreros has been inducted into the Spanish Basketball Hall of Fame. The madridista legend is one of the ten honorees of this sixth class, which also includes another iconic Real Madrid player: Cristóbal Rodríguez. The ceremony was held in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz).
Herreros joined our club in 1996 from Estudiantes and became one of the cornerstones of Real Madrid in the late 90s. He played nine seasons, during which he won 2 League titles and 1 Cup Winners' Cup. Madridistas fondly remember his game-winning three-pointer in the comeback victory during the fifth game of the final against TAU Cerámica, which secured the title in the 2004-2005 season. After retiring in 2005, he joined the technical staff of Real Madrid's basketball section.
With the Spanish national team, Herreros played 172 games and won silver medals at the 1999 and 2003 European Championships. He currently holds the all-time records for points (9,759) and three-pointers made (1,233) in the Liga Endesa.
Cristóbal Rodríguez, a madridista legend
The Tenerife-born player was a standout center during one of the most glorious eras of Real Madrid basketball. He joined the club at just 16 years old, and in 1966, Pedro Ferrándiz promoted him to the first team. During his 13 seasons as a madridista, he won 4 European Cups, 11 League titles, 8 Spanish Cups, and 3 Intercontinental Cups.
Other recognitions
The gala also included a posthumous tribute to Piculín Ortiz, who played for our basketball team during the 1989-1990 season and passed away on May 5 at the age of 62. Additionally, Mario Pesquera, who served as the general director of Real Madrid's basketball section during the 1994-1995 season, was also honored in this sixth edition.
