Real Madrid won the Spanish Basketball Cup for the fourth time 68 years ago. The team coached by Ignacio Pinedo won the trophy on 17 June 1956 courtesy of a 59-55 victory over Aismalíbar at the Frontón Fiesta Alegre in Madrid.
An evenly matched final that ended 54-54 required extra time to decide the winner. Joaquín Hernández and Arturo Imedio were the best players for the Whites. Real Madrid and Aismalíbar went on to play in the following year's final, which also ended in a Madrid victory.
