On 9 March 1988, Real Madrid got the better of Cibona in the two-legged final.
Today is the 36th anniversary of Real Madrid's Korać Cup victory, when they got the better of Cibona in the two-legged finale. Having won 102-89 at home, our team were crowned champions in the return on 9 March 1988, when they lost by a single point to their hosts in Zagreb, 94-93.
Madrid built up a 13-point advantage in the first leg thanks to some impressive performances by Romay, Branson and Alexis, all three posting over 20 points. The lead proved decisive in deciding the title in the second leg on the road. Cibona, led by Petrovic who scored 47 points before his move to Real Madrid, won on the night but it wasn't enough to turn the tie around. Alexis was top scorer for Lolo Sainz's team in the return, with 22 points to his name.
