Special: The 37th basketball league title
Real Madrid beat UCAM 3-0 in the final and claimed the title at the Palacio de los Deportes in Murcia.
Real Madrid was crowned league champion for the 37th time on 12 June 2024 thanks to winning the third game of the final (3-0) in Murcia. This was the crowning moment of an undefeated playoffs (8-0), a feat that Real Madrid had not achieved since 1986. During the final game, the team had to bounce back from a very tough first half, where we were trailing by as much as 10 points. The team produced a fantastic third quarter (+18 with a 16-34) that turned the game on its head and then finished it off in the last quarter in emphatic fashion. This saw our side complete the league, Copa del Rey and Super Cup treble nine seasons after the last one and the achievement was celebrated in the locker room.
Prior to that, Chus Mateo's men had beaten UCAM Murcia in both games at the WiZink Center. Our team won the first, another evenly matched game, 84-76 helped by a great performance from Musa, while in the second they won more convincingly (79-63) led by Rudy Fernández, who received a standing ovation.
A send-off befitting a legend
It was a very moving tribute from the WiZink Center to Rudy Fernández in his last game on our court. With 1:45 remaining in the second game of the final, the forward made his fourth three-pointer without a miss and clinched the victory against UCAM Murcia. Eleven seconds later, Chus Mateo replaced him and, from that moment on, it was magical at the WiZink Center. Everyone in the Palacio took to their feet to say an emotional, impromptu homage to a legend of our club and of world basketball. An ovation that continued for the rest of the game and lasted a long time afterward, as long as 15 minutes, during which Rudy kissed the crest, was presented with a commemorative plaque, and received an emotional hug from his children. The fans chanted Rudy Fernández's name in the background and didn't stop until the legend finally left for the locker room.
The road to the final
We qualified for the final following an impeccable run of results. They faced Gran Canaria in the quarter-finals, beating them at home (105-70) and away (71-73). Then, in the semi-finals, it was time for the Clásico. Chus Mateo's team once again came out on top in a convincing fashion. Both games at the WiZink Center ended in victories (97-78 and 104-98) and the deciding win came at el Palau in a heart-stopping final (92-95).
Musa named MVP in the final
Dzanan Musa was awarded MVP of the Endesa League final after averaging 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 18.7 PIR over the three games against UCAM Murcia. The Bosnian player, who won his first MVP in a final, said: "I'm really happy and excited to play for this team. My teammates and coaches trust me. I'm very happy to win the MVP but for me, the most important thing is winning the trophy. Real Madrid is 100% my place. I'm happy here and I hope to be here for a long time to come, Hala Madrid".
The party to celebrate the 37th league title
The day after the win in Murcia, the squad and coaching staff, together with president Florentino Pérez and the board of directors, visited Madrid's institutions carrying the trophy. They visited the headquarters of the Comunidad de Madrid and the City Hall to show the trophy to the madridistas. It was an unforgettable end to a magnificent season, in which they won three trophies: League, Copa del Rey and Super Cup.
