Fourth EuroLeague final in 5 years
Real Madrid will face Olympiacos at the Telekom Center in Athens (Sunday, 8:00 pm CEST; Movistar Plus+).
Real Madrid defeated Valencia Basket and will play its fourth EuroLeague final in the last 5 seasons. During this time, we only missed the title match in 2025 in Abu Dhabi and were crowned champions in 2023 in Belgrade after defeating Olympiacos in the final with Llull's historic shot with 3.1 seconds remaining. Incidentally, the Greeks will be the opponent to beat this Sunday in the final hurdle to claim the Twelfth.
Madridistas narrowly missed the title in 2022 by just one point in the final against Anadolu Efes (57-58). A year later, they came back stronger and, after a season full of challenges in the form of injuries and a historic playoff where they overturned a 0-2 deficit against Partizan, reached the final in Kaunas. There, they defeated Barcelona in the semifinals and, in an epic final against Olympiacos, came back from a 7-point deficit in the last 5 minutes, culminating with an incredible basket by Llull over the towering Fall with 3.1 seconds left (78-69). Madrid lifted the Eleventh.
Legend
In 2024, Real Madrid reached the Final Four for the third consecutive year. They defeated Olympiacos in the semifinals and faced Panathinaikos in the final, where they ultimately fell short. Last year, they could not qualify for the Final Four after losing in the playoff against Olympiacos. But this season, they are back, and they have done so in the strongest EuroLeague ever. They finished third in the Regular Season and convincingly defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv in the quarterfinals with a 3-1 aggregate. In the semifinals, they overcame Valencia Basket (90-105) without Tavares, Len, and with Garuba injured in the last quarter. This Sunday, Real Madrid will aim to further solidify its legend in Europe.
