Campazzo: “It's going to be a hard-fought final and we'll have to be ready”
“We're hoping for a repeat of last year's result," underlined the point guard.
Facundo Campazzo spoke to the press at the Palacio de los Deportes in Murcia, where he discussed Real Madrid's Super Cup final encounter with Unicaja (8:00 CEST): “We're hoping for a repeat of last year's result, it's going to be a difficult match and we have to be ready and improve on certain things with struggled with in yesterday's game. We have to adapt to new opposition and give it our best.”
“Teams who start out in the Super Cup aren't always at 100%. You improve over time as the season progresses. They're coming into it off an impressive pre-season and we're expecting a tough match. They play some good basketball, they have the same spine as last year, the same identity. We know them well and the small details will decide this game. They demand 100% from you, both physically and mentally, and this is a final. We have to try and do all we can to make sure the trophy ends up with Real Madrid.”
Playing in Murcia
“I spent two years here and it's always nice to come back. It may make it extra special, but I'm wearing the Real Madrid jersey and I'm enjoying every season here. We're in another final and we'll do our very best to get our hands on the trophy. It'll be an entertaining game, high pace, and we have to be careful."
The chance to win his fourth MVP title
“That's a secondary concern. The great thing about this team is how any one of us can step up in any game and at any moment. We showed that last season and that's what makes us so dangerous and unpredictable. It came down to me yesterday, but there were moments for Hezonja, Tavares… It really was a team display that won that game. At the same time, we've got a team with huge offensive firepower in every position, and one day it may be this guy, and another it's someone else. We have to capitalise on those offensive variables and become even more dangerous in that sense. It's a very selfless style we have.”
Taking responsibility in the dressing room
“The experience is different to last year, when we had players who had been at the club for years. This year, it'll be up to those of us who have been here for a while to step up in that sense, to take on the experience and leadership duties. Everyone has a responsibility there, to try and help the new guys settle in as well as possible. The good thing is that they understand what it means to play for this club and they are adapting really quickly. We still have lots of room for improvement. We have to stay calm and let things flow."
