Today marks the 70th anniversary of Real Madrid's third Copa de España in basketball. On 6 June 1954, the Whites clinched the trophy after beating Joventut in the final (56-41). The madridistas, who had won the competition for the first time three years earlier, enjoyed undisputed dominance in the 1950s, winning five of the eight Copa finals.
After an evenly matched first half, Real Madrid pulled away in the second half to win the final by 15 points at the Frontón Fiesta Alegre in Madrid. Galíndez was the standout performer for a team that had Freddy Borrás as player-coach.
