Unicaja-Real Madrid: Whites going for 10th Super Cup
The Whites will be looking to clinch the trophy for the sixth consecutive year this evening at the Palacio de los Deportes in Murcia (7pm CEST).
Real Madrid are in action for the second time this season and have a chance to secure their first trophy, as they take on Unicaja de Málaga in the 2023 Endesa Super Cup final at the Palacio de los Deportes in Murcia after yesterday’s emphatic win over Barça. Chus Mateo‘s boys will be looking to collect their tenth Super Cup trophy and their sixth in a row since 2018. This will be the first time these two sides face each other in the final of the tournament.
Madrid showed in the Clásico that they intend to continue extending their winning streak in the Super Cup. After yesterday's win against Barça, they have now appeared in 11 successive tournaments. The Whites performed excellently during many phases of the game, defending strongly and producing a spectacular second quarter to give Barça no chance 80-90. Meanwhile, Unicaja defeated the hosts, UCAM Murcia, 74-79.

The two teams have never faced each other before in the final. Chus Mateo's charges will be up against more established opposition, a team with only a few changes in personnel and a very settled squad. Brizuela has departed but Taylor, formerly of Girona, has joined the team. They also have Diop in the paint as a temporary reinforcement. Madrid welcome back Campazzo into their ranks. His return to the team proved to be a triumphant one, racking up 17 points and playing a big part in the game. The team also possesses a plethora of talent with the likes of Tavares, Deck, Musa and company.
Madrid will have to match Unicaja's desire to win. Unicaja lost the 2006 and 2015 finals and had not participated in the Super Cup for five years. They will be aiming for their first trophy. They face the team with the best record in the tournament with nine trophies and supreme dominance over the last few years. If Madrid win, it will be their ninth in 12 years.
700 appearances for Rudy
The Madrid small forward will achieve this historic milestone if he participates this evening. With 23 trophies under his belt with our team, Rudy also hopes to lift a Super Cup. A tournament in which he is the most successful player with eight trophies, equal with his teammate and our captain Llull. Starting at 7pm CEST, the first trophy of the season will be up for grabs.
