Real Madrid-Olympiacos: huge game on EuroLeague return to the Palacio
PREVIEW.Edu Bueno

The EuroLeague returns to the Movistar Arena after a five-month hiatus, and it does so with one of the greatest match-ups this competition has to offer, pitting two giants of European basketball against each other. Real Madrid and Olympiacos will square off on matchday two. Scariolo's men will be looking to earn their first win and make up for Tuesday's defeat in Bologna.

There's no time to rest. No time to digest victories or defeats in the most taxing EuroLeague ever. Real Madrid must move on because today brings another contender for the title. The Madridista court must now become an unassailable fortress for its rivals more than ever. This evening, they could deliver a statement against one of their historic rivals. The two sides are evenly matched. Of the 46 times they have clashed under the EuroLeague banner, Madrid have won 24 and Olympiacos 22. The last meeting was in last season's play-offs, where the Greek side prevailed 3-1.

This evening’s clash will be as feisty as ever. Real Madrid have bolstered their squad with six new additions and the arrival of Scariolo on the bench. This makeover will take some time to show the team's best form. Even so, they put up a good fight in Bologna, but their lack of accuracy in three-point shooting cost them the victory (74-68). Any improvement in their percentages will have a direct effect on their game. Defence will be one of their strengths. The first and third quarters against the Italians showed the way forward (14 and 17 points conceded).

The opposition
Olympiacos claimed victory on the opening day at Baskonia, but not without a fight (96-102). Dorsey, Vezenkov and Milutinov were the stars of a team that has bolstered its already potent roster with the arrival of Ward, formerly of Paris Basketball, and Donta Hall, formerly of Baskonia, among others. The team maintains the core of recent years with Fournier, Peters and company. A huge night is in store at the Movistar Arena.
