Real Madrid and Barça opened the 2023/24 season in Murcia on 16 September in the semi-finals of the Supercopa. Chus Mateo's men won and a day later were proclaimed champions. Just two weeks later we have another Clásico. This time in the third round of the League at the WiZink Center, where our team, leader of the competition, will try to stay undefeated and pick up their third consecutive win.

Both teams have a record of two wins and zero defeats, but Madrid are ahead on basket average. The blaugranas beat Joventut at the Palau and in extra time against newly promoted Zunder Palencia away. Our team beat Casademont Zaragoza by 31 points at home and last Friday against Manresa away. Taking into account the two wins in the Supercup, Chus Mateo's team has won four consecutive victories in less than two weeks.
Both teams find themselves in their prime and Madrid have shown their strength from the first day. They did just that against Barça in a game in which they were far superior, won the game on the bounce and were very accurate in their two-point shooting. And also displaying their best defensive level at the important moments. In Manresa, without Tavares, Deck and Rudy, it was Campazzo, Musa, Llull and Ndiaye who stepped up. Barça are expected to be a more settled outfit this time round, with their signings performing better, physically powerful and with the three-point shot as one of their main weapons, led by Laprovittola.

The first of eleven games in October
The schedule will allow no let-up. Today sees the start of the the second month of competition with the Clásico and ten more games to come. Practically one every two and a half days with the start of the Euroleague next Friday at the Buesa Arena against Baskonia. There is also the game against Luka Doncic's Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday 10 and another Clásico, the first in Europe, on Thursday 26. In total, seven games at the WiZink Center and four away.
