Real Madrid-Fenerbahce: huge clash at the WiZink Center
Chus Mateo's team are seeking their seventh EuroLeague win (8:45pm CET).
Real Madrid welcome Fenerbahce today for what has been a EuroLeague classic in recent times. This will be the 36th chapter in a historic rivalry, and our team will be hoping to maintain their positive form at the WiZink Center to clinch win number seven against second in the table, and one of the best performing outfits in the opening months of the season.
It's sure to be a hugely demanding game for the madridistas. They're strongest at home though, having won five of six games so far, averaging 94.8 points scored. That WiZink Center offensive firepower will be necessary if they're to overcome a Fenerbahce side who boast the second best defense in the EuroLeague (77.4). Both teams lost in the last round - Madrid in Lyon following a controversial final play, and the Turkish team in Vitoria, their second loss on the bounce in the competition.
Madrid will need to do the basics well. That starts with concentration on defense against the Fenerbahce perimeter (Baldwin IV, Guduric, Biberovic and Colson) and rebound, where the Turks top the table. Marjanovic completes an inside game with some smooth shooting skills (Melli, Hayes-Davis and Sanli).
Their best numbers
One on the rebound: Tavares; and the other for assists: Campazzo. The center is enjoying his best season to date on the rebound, averaging 8.4 per game, bettering the 8 he managed during 2020/21. He's the undisputed EuroLeague leader on that statistic, as well as on blocks (1.6). The Argentine base averages 8.1 assists per game and has totalled 10 or more on three occasions. The duo are the team's top-rated guys, with PIR stats of 18.8 and 22.1 respectively.
