La Laguna Tenerife-Real Madrid: all out to defend the top spot
Chus Mateo's team, with 14 straight wins in this competition, today visit second in the table’s court (1pm CEST).

After winning in Belgrade in the last round of the Euroleague, Real Madrid face another tough trip, this time to Tenerife in the league. The leaders will face second-placed La Laguna Tenerife, over whom they have a win and a +10 in the basket average after winning in the reverse fixture (96-86). Chus Mateo's team will attempt to remain undefeated in the league in 2025 and seal their 15th consecutive victory in the competition.
The madridistas sealed their place in the ACB playoffs with a win at the Palau last week against Barcelona (89-91). The next objective is the home-court factor. Today will be a very important game because a win against the Tenerife-based side would give them an advantage of two additional wins plus the basket average with seven games to go until the end of the Regular League. But they will undoubtedly suffer, as La Laguna have only lost one game at home and that was in matchday 3.
Winning streaks collide
Madrid's streak started on December 29 last year with the victory in the Clásico. Since then, they have won 14 consecutive League matches, combining this with the final stretch of the regular phase of the Euroleague, where they have won six in a row. For their part, La Laguna Tenerife have 10 consecutive league wins and are in the quarter-finals of the Basketball Champions League.
Defense and rebounding
In the first round match, the inside game was decisive. Tavares, Ibaka and Hezonja, with 19, 23 and 24 PIR respectively, beat Shermadini and company. The La Laguna Tenerife center comes into the match having been MVP in the last round. Rebounding and not giving up comfortable shots will be key, as the home side have the best three-point, two-point and one-point percentage in the league. Madrid have won in their last two visits to Santiago Martín de Tenerife and today aim to keep the lead.
